PEARL CHAMBER SINGERS Chamber Singers, the madrigal performance ensemble of Pearl Singers, is the highest honor for a choral student at Pearl High School. Auditions are held each spring for any available spots in the 22-member group. Once selected, each student is required to design his or her own costume and have it made to bring a truly medieval feel to the group. Each costume is unique, unlike any other. It is the student's own design and belongs to the student. Chamber Singers consistently earn superior ratings at all events and Sweepstakes awards at the Gulf Coast Choral Festival. In addition to festival performances, the Pearl Chamber Singers frequently perform throughout the Jackson metropolitan area for various community events. Past performances of the Chamber Singers have included occasions for Union Planters Bank, Walker Corporation, Eastover Corporation, The Orchard, the Jackson Exchange Club, the Mississippi Association of Gifted Teachers, the Mississippi Department of Education and numerous small neighborhood or club functions. Other significant achievements of Chamber Singers include a performance at the Mississippi Governor's Mansion for a luncheon hosted by First Lady Pat Fordice. The Chamber Singers also performed at a dinner party hosted by Governor and Mrs. Kirk Fordice. They also performed for Governor Fordice's private reception during the opening festivities of the world famous Palaces of Versailles exhibit. The repertoire of Chamber Singers consists of music from the medieval and Renaissance periods. They primarily perform madrigals works from Italy and England that exhibit characteristics of this time period. Some of the most famous composers of madrigal music are Orlando di Lasso, William Byrd, Thomas Morley, Orlando Gibbons and John Wilbye.
